Enabling attitudes in the teacher-student relationship
A foundation theoretical from a person-centered approach

Introduction: this article aims to describe the incidence of congruence, empathic understanding and unconditional positive regard from the teacher-student relationship. Material and Method: the method corresponding to this study is quantitative and qualitative (Mixed); In the case of the first, the information was obtained from an inventory formulated by sentences that represent the three basic attitudes: empathic understanding, unconditional positive interest and congruence, where the students marked the answer, they considered appropriate. In the qualitative part, the students expressed their opinions in the open questions that are part of the inventory. Results and conclusions: The commitment is presented as an expression of this attitude in both parts; The three fundamental attitudes are related to each other; each one opens paths and possibilities to enrich oneself as a person and it is necessary to work on them in a continuous and disciplined way. Empathic understanding, congruence and unconditional positive regard are part of the human being, one may be more developed and clearer, usually, it tends to be empathy, although without congruence it is not perceived that empathic behavior is genuine or that it exists a real positive interest.
