Abstract

The article presents the humanistic proposal of the person-centered approach (PCA) for dream dialogue in psychotherapy. The initial and current PCA position regarding dreams is presented. A phenomenological view is proposed to describe the phenomenon of dreaming and the conscious nature of dream evocation is highlighted. The functions of dreams according to various person-centered authors are reviewed. A dialogical attitude is proposed regarding the diverse experiences of clients regarding dreaming. The foundations for exploring dreams from a PCA and specific exploration strategies according to the contributions of authors of this approach are also presented. And finally, the possibilities of the client and the role of the therapist in working with dreams from the PCA are reviewed, in addition to briefly commenting on some cases.
