From the perspective of the Person-Centered Approach, it is assumed that the deepest cause of suffering in a person is experiencing themselves as different from who they really are, which tends to happen when they choose - consciously or unconsciously - to distance themselves from their authentic self. Such is the case of women, who, being socialized to assume gender mandates as if it were natural to their sex-gender, have difficulty developing a self from an internal frame of reference. To understand this, it is necessary to review the personal experiences of women, analyze the various ways in which gender dynamics limit the development of unconditional positive self-regard and restrict access to awareness of feelings and thoughts that are not congruent with the concept of self-developed from a hegemonic and patriarchal frame of reference. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to present personal-academic experiences and reflections derived from integration processes from the perspective centered on the person and feminism, as a starting point since both perspectives suggest approaching personal experience to know the problems that people experience and question gender mandates.
